Opening your next discovery…
How can the same journey look longer on one map than another?
Your discovery goalApply a stated map scale and explain what stays fixed when map scale changes.
Mapping under reviewA prediction is a starting idea. You can revise it after exploring.
Use at least 40 characters and include an observation. Your writing is saved as evidence; it is not automatically judged for accuracy.
This records completion of this demonstration. It is not an official grade or a claim of mastery.
Translate a measured map distance into a represented distance with units.
Apply a stated map scale and explain what stays fixed when map scale changes.
State what you changed. Describe the result using an observation from the model. Connect the observation to the idea you are learning, then try a different case to test your explanation.
Build on what you know. Discover where it leads.

Original activities, questions, reading passages and fictional archives. A curricular connection does not make a Bodhi activity an official NCERT exercise. Broader grade adaptation awaits educator review.
Mapping scope: Original numerical map task; exact Class VIII geography competency placement awaits review. It is an application of proportional reasoning, not an official chapter title.
The explanations, models and assessments on labs.bodhiclasses are original learning activities. An official reference establishes curriculum context; it does not imply approval of this activity by CBSE or NCERT.
Selected route: 5 map cm × 2 km per map cm = 10 ground km. The street route is longer than the direct segment. Doubling the km represented by each map cm doubles both ground distances.
A new route on this same map measures 7 cm. The scale is still 1 cm : 2 km. Calculate its ground distance and choose the ground unit.
The drawing is an original diagram, not a geographical survey. One grid interval is one nominal map centimetre, regardless of screen size. The 5 cm diagonal and 3 + 4 cm street route are supplied measurements; proving the diagonal is not required. Numerical scale conversion is a proportional-reasoning application; introductory Class V map work should begin with direction, symbols and comparison.
