How can you change mass or charge without changing the element?
A prediction is a starting idea. You can revise it after exploring.
Use at least 40 characters and include an observation. Your writing is saved as evidence; it is not automatically judged for accuracy.
This records completion of this demonstration. It is not an official grade or a claim of mastery.
This is an original Bodhi learning activity. Official references establish its curriculum context, rather than endorsement of the simulation or complete syllabus coverage.
pp. 4–17 key concept and outcome tables. New IX-specific course inspected successfully. Biology topics include Cell, Tissues, Reproduction, Diversity. Broad stage competencies on preceding pages are not treated as Grade IX topic placement. Inspected scope: curriculum.
Source checked · 2026-10-21Chapter 8, §§8.3, 8.5–8.9; printed pp. 149–154 (PDF pp. 10–15). Current body inspected for particle identities, atomic/mass number, first-18 electron distributions and isotopes. Ion construction is an explicitly identified application of charge accounting; arbitrary allowed nuclei are not claimed stable. No figure or wording copied. Mapping under review · 2026-10-21An isotope and an ion are different kinds of change. Build two pieces of evidence: convert neutral carbon-12 into neutral carbon-14, then convert neutral sodium-23 into a sodium-23 ion with charge +1. The two completed constructions are kept as separate mission records.
Begin with carbon-12: 6 protons, 6 neutrons and 6 electrons. Reach carbon-14 while keeping the element carbon and keeping the atom neutral.
Original particle-count construction for the first 18 elements, with a simple K/L/M filling pattern of 2, 8, 8. Circular shells represent energy levels rather than literal electron paths. The arbitrary combinations permitted by the controls need not be stable nuclei or naturally occurring ions; the lab makes no radioactivity or binding-energy prediction. Mass number counts nucleons and is not the same as a sample’s average atomic mass. Keyboard +/− buttons perform every action available by dragging. No animation is required.
