How does changing diaphragm movement affect fresh-air entry, and when does chest motion fail to tell the full story?
A prediction is a starting idea. You can revise it after exploring.
Use at least 40 characters and include an observation. Your writing is saved as evidence; it is not automatically judged for accuracy.
This records completion of this demonstration. It is not an official grade or a claim of mastery.
This is an original Bodhi learning activity. Official references establish its curriculum context, rather than endorsement of the simulation or complete syllabus coverage.
§9.2.1, printed pp. 129–133 (PDF pp. 9–13). Current body re-inspected for breathing mechanism, alveolar exchange, respiration distinction and generic heart/blood/vessel transport. The original four-station transport loop is explanatory enrichment; named chambers and vessel types are not required VII objectives here. Mapping under review · 2026-10-21Investigate how a moving diaphragm changes chest space. Record a fair two-cycle comparison, then test an airway that is sealed in this model. Follow oxygen and carbon dioxide across an enlarged alveolar boundary before deciding which process releases energy.
Cycle not yet advanced. Diaphragm remains at the resting dome; ribs remain at the resting position; chest-space index 100. Air follows nose → windpipe → branching tubes → alveoli. Oxygen crosses from alveolar air into blood; carbon dioxide crosses from blood into alveolar air. The inset shows exchange directions, not a measurement of gas rates.
Indices compare settings: added space = 0.65 × diaphragm displacement + 0.35 × rib lift. Fresh-air entry equals added space for an open airway, zero across a sealed opening. These values are not litres, pressure or oxygen uptake. Sealed air already inside may still change volume; this sketch does not simulate that compression.
| Trial | Diaphragm | Ribs | Airway | Space index | Entry index |

Seal the airway, advance inhalation at a nonzero expansion, then predict fresh entry. Use the enlarged boundary to distinguish gas transport and chemical energy release.
Sealed-airway counterfactual observed: not yet.
Original user-stepped process sketch and uncalibrated comparison indices. Shapes and proportions are not anatomical measurements; the alveolar boundary is enlarged. The model omits residual air, pressure, elastic recoil, detailed airflow, gas concentrations and blood-flow limits. Sealed fresh-air entry does not mean trapped gas cannot expand. No personal breathing task, health test or advice is provided. VII core and bounded X revision are source mapped separately; this does not complete either chapter.
